Bukit Merah on 12th - 14th Jul 2002

Definition of Training / Team Building
Training / Team Building ‘TT’ is vital to ensure that employees function competently and safely at work, while development increases their skills and encourages progress. These processes are supported by coaching and mentoring.

TT is not always concerned with the skills required for the individual’s current role. It can also cover refresher training to keep skills up to date, additional tools to cover other people’s jobs, and organizational knowledge.

After the TT, we must always carry out some kind of evaluation, together with the employee. We need to know whether the desired improvement has been achieved. This will guide the future decisions about investment in TT.

Brief Introduction for CW Management Club ‘The Club’
The Club was conducted a successful 3 days 2 nights Team Building in Bukit Merah Laketown Resort from 12th till 14th July 2002. The valuable parts are the In-house training ‘Make A Difference’ and Outdoor activities ‘Spider Web & A Frame’ which was conducted by a professional coach or mentor.

The training has brought us to realize what we can do as a team. Understanding, responsible, generous, considerate, co-operating and working together confidently to achieve one’s goal or a team’s goal. Other than these, we also learned all about ‘Awareness’- Self Awareness, Others Awareness & Location Awareness.

The Club’s Motive
The Club’s motive is to build relationship, knowledge all together as a team with not only within the members, but also for non-members. People can often accomplish much more by working together than they can by working separately. Even just making people feel part of a team, instead of isolated individuals, helps them achieve more and feel more committed. An effective team can share and exploit its full range of talent and expertise, and compensate for individual weaknesses.

We want CWCB employees are always been motivated, energetic and enthusiastic, performing consistently well and actively seeking greater responsibility. They are not intimidated by the prospect of change, and have a positive approach to challenges.

In contrast, demotivated employees will often appear not to care about their tasks and goals. As a result, their performance can be poor, and they will shrink responsibility. They may frequently arrive late, or be absent altogether. They may exaggerate the slightest problem, and consequently find change difficult to cope with.

Reward is not just about money. Money does not motivate people to perform better. Throwing money at a motivation problem will yield only short term results. Think about non-monetary reward, positive feedback, taking an active interest in the individual’s career, increasing responsibility in recognition of ability. Find out what drives the individual, and use that knowledge to develop suitable rewards.

Let’s we reassess the team’s work load where necessary, and use training to improve ability. Just like what The Club is proposing in below.

‘Being motivated is more than just being happy or satisfied in a job. Motivated people want to do the very best they can – Not for you, but for themselves. Motivation is a feeling within a person, not something you can impose.’

The Club’s Plan
In representing the club, The Club would like to propose to CWCB on the coming “Event of the Club” that we jointly organize a training event in which all members of The Club including most if not all the employees of CWCB can participate.

As trainings are mostly related to team building and motivation, The Club feel it is beneficial to all of us at CWCB and not just for The Club members. Should the management sees fit, it would be great for all future trainings be jointly organized. With such, attendance and participation can be made compulsory for all employees to fully gain from the training.

As far as cost for training is concerned, CWCB will have to bear due to the fact that all participants are staff of CWCB except those training where family members or friends are allowed to join. For that cause, The Club will then instead of absorbing the cost for training which The Club find it quite a challenge to look into possible sponsorships for prizes for events and other such.

The Club sincerely hope for the management of CWCB to look into this proposal as a benefit to all of us and with a positive respond, The Club and the company will work together to forge a better working environment through teamwork.

Dear members of the club,

As a representative of the club committee, I would like to thank all of you who have joined in our trip to Bukit Merah.

As all of you know, it has been a pleasant one… as promised! But without the full support from all of the members who attend, it would not be possible. The training has brought us to realize what we can do as a team. Understanding, co-operating and working together confidently to achieve one’s goal or a team’s goal. I hope what is learned is practiced whenever it can be.

The presentation file* of the training is distributed to you in hope that you can share the experience and the knowledge with your friends especially the members of the club who did not attend the fun trip.

Once again, my sincere appreciation to all of you who have played your part to make this trip a wonderful and enjoyable one. It sure deserve a place in my heart as a memorable one.

As the training goes… let’s go MAD from now!
Brace yourself, more activities to come. Thank You to all my dearest club members.
